This series of small oil paintings began after Maggie found a baby hummingbird on the ground while trimming a tree. She put it back in its nest in the branches, and watched from the window as its mother came back to feed it. The baby lived for 2 weeks before succombing to a predator. These paintings flowed out of Maggie's grief -- not just for the baby bird, but for the impermanence and fragility of life, something the hummingbird embodies so beautifully.
